What it is
Huperzia Serrata is a club moss used in traditional Chinese practice. It is the natural source of Huperzine A, the compound most people mean when they talk about this ingredient.
What it does in Memoclear
Acetylcholine is the brain messenger most tied to memory and learning. An enzyme called acetylcholinesterase breaks it down. Huperzine A has been studied for slowing that enzyme, which would keep acetylcholine available longer. In Memoclear it covers the second of the three pathways: the messenger itself.
What the research says
Huperzine A has been studied mostly in China, often in people with existing memory conditions, and reviews call the quality of that evidence limited. There is far less research in healthy adults. What is well established is the mechanism: Huperzine A does act on acetylcholinesterase.
Who should be careful
Because it acts on acetylcholine, Huperzine A can interact with medicines that also affect the nervous system, including some prescribed for memory conditions, and with certain heart and eye medicines. Do not combine it with other Huperzine A products. Ask your doctor if you take any of these.
Where it sits in the formula
Huperzia Serrata works alongside the other five ingredients: Ginkgo Biloba, Phosphatidylserine, Bacopa Monnieri, Vitamin B12, N-Acetyl L-Carnitine. Together they cover blood flow, brain cell walls, memory messengers, nerve function and cell energy in one daily capsule.
